Description of Event: The benefits of psychedelics, for overcoming psychiatric issues like addiction, depression, anxiety and PTSD, and even as a tool for spiritual growth, have been proven by a series of high quality clinical studies over the last 20 years. For most of that time, psychedelic drugs have been illegal. This situation is only just starting to change in Canada. Did you know that a medical clinic offering psychedelic therapy is opening in Waterloo Region? Or that much of the original pioneering research began in Canada back in the 1950s?
In this information session, you will learn the history and benefits of psychedelic therapy, and about some of the clinical studies that prove its effectiveness. You will also learn how psychedelic therapy works, what the process is like, what it feels like for the participants. We will discuss the current status of psychedelics in Canada and Ontario, and the road ahead for legalization. And we will discuss which groups are active in Waterloo region, if you want more information, or if you want to get involved in spreading public awareness.
Our guest speaker, Derek Snider, is the founder of the Entheogenic Research Guild of Toronto and co-founder of the KWCG Psychedelic Society and Psychedelic Canada. With over 30 years of experience, Derek is dedicated to promoting the responsible use of psychedelics for any positive purpose, whether recreational, therapeutic, spiritual, or utilitarian. His work focuses on educating the public about the transformative potential of psychedelics, particularly in their ability to foster personal growth, spiritual exploration, and self-awareness. Derek’s approach is rooted in respect for both the science and the spiritual dimensions of entheogens, aiming to create an inclusive space for learning and responsible use.
